Installing STUFF on a Local Area Network

Initial Setup:

What your LAN (server) needs: 50 Mb of disk space (550 Mb if you are loading the LocationFinder! Map Data CD) on a PUBLIC drive.

What your USERS (clients) need: READ and WRITE rights to the file server directory, and an ICON pointing to COFINDER.EXE.  Each client will have a folder C:\costuff2 which will contain a few files that are used to prepare reports.  They will also have several active x components installed into their windows/sytem folder.  In total each client PC will use about 3 Mb of disk space.

Step 1: If you have previously installed C.O. Finder! it is possible that some users are currently using C.O. Finder! when you try to reinstall it. If this is the case, then you need to use the ZAPSTUFF.EXE utility located in the C.O. Finder! directory. This will get users off of the old C.O. Finder! so that you can install the new C.O. Finder! When users attempt to use C.O. Finder! in this state, it will briefly come onto the screen then disappear.

TO ZAP YOUR USERS: Open File Manager or Explorer and double click on the ZAPSTUFF.EXE file. Press CLOSE then wait until it closes the database. This takes about 30 seconds. Press OK. Any users who are in the middle of any process such as sorts, reports, help screens, etc. will require more personal attention. (You may try a diskette to the side of their head or possibly announce that the paychecks are in, to get them away from the PC's.)

Step 2: Install C.O. Finder! onto the file server in a directory of your choice from any client P.C

Optional Software Installation:

LocationFinder!

Install onto the file server in the same directory as C.O. Finder!

Step 3: Install icons at each client PC. Open Windows Explorer and double click on the SETUP.EXE file. Follow the prompts.

Subsequent Updates:

After the above Steps 1, 2 and 3 have been completed, you won't have to do anything at the client desktops again.  One person at your company can be in charge of updating the software from any PC that has access to the shared drive.  All other users will be automatically updated with the new update.
